Ibanez Artist AM205 "Stagemaster" (September 1983)This is it — my marooned-on-a-desert island, 'holy grail' guitar! Despite its small size (a fraction larger than a Les Paul), it plays and sounds like a dream, and produces the widest variety of sounds of any guitar I've ever played. All that in a package that weighs in at a fraction of the solid-body Artists.
Here are some quotes, as well as a picture, from the 1982 catalogue:
The more things change.....Gibson's Custom Division recently issued the CS-336, a scaled down, performance version of the ES-335. What's interesting is Gibson's claim that the innovative design and performance of the CS-336 reflects an "unprecedented" combination of tradition and technology.
Funny thing is that the CS-336 appears to be based on the AM205 which was designed over 20 years ago — ironic considering how Ibanez once copied Gibson's designs.
Gibson's new model is the same size as the AM205, and, like the AM205, features a routed mahogany back and a contoured top. Though a very cool guitar, the AM205 is as good — if not superior — in every important area: quality, craftsmanship, attention to detail, materials, styling and class, as well as tone and playability.
The plain top CS-336 lists for $4000US, while the flame top version lists for $5000US. However, second-hand AM205s (when you can find them) still sell for considerably less. Imagine the price if the CS-336 was offered in a burled mahogany version like the AM205.

This Ibanez AM-205 (1983) Hollow Body Guitar is in fantastic shape (9/10).
All hardware is original and has been well looked after. The guitar was traded to me in 1999 and has been sitting in my basement in it's case ever since.
Note: One of the tone knobs is missing the rubber Sure Grip ring. I have looked for a replacement but have yet to find one. The knob works 100%. The Sure Grip is a rubber ring that wraps around the glass knob for easier grip.
